Deep-Cleansing Facial At Home

SOMETIMES IT IS RISKY TO GET DEEP CLEANSING AT PARLOR, BECAUSE THE USE OF CHEMICAL PRODUCT T FOR SENSITIVE SKIN,
So here is a simple step by step cleansing method to apply at home with herbal products,

To save your skin (and your wallet) you can give yourself an at-home facial once a week – using ingredients found in your kitchen cupboard as well as natural skin care products purchased from our online store. All of our facial treatments and products are entirely natural, chemical-free and are suitable for even the most sensitive skin-types!

You will need the following:

  • A bowl filled with steaming hot water (not boiling, just steaming)
  • A few sprigs of fresh herbs, lemon/lime slices or herbal tea bags
  • Towels
  • A cleansing face wash
  • An exfoliating scrub mix
  • A hydrating face mask
  • A nourishing moisturiser

 Step 1:

You will need to start off with a clean face.

Remove all your make-up and give your face a thorough washing with a foaming face wash – we recommend our Rose & Geranium Facial Wash. It’s SLS-free and contains no acid-based ingredients, so it won’t dry out your skin, or leave it feeling tight. Spend a few minutes really getting rid of the day’s dirt and grime. Gently pat your face dry with a towel.
Top tip: for a mild natural facial peel, liquidise a few pineapple slices in a food processor and apply to your face, especially in areas where your skin is rough, dry or blotchy. Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelin that helps break down and digest old skin-cells without damaging new skin – leaving your skin fresh and glowing.

Step 2:

Next take your chosen exfoliant (we recommend the Lemon, Lime & Juniper Berry Facial Scrub if you’ve got oily/combination skin and the Breakfast for Your Face scrub if your skin is dry/sensitive) and use your fingers to massage it into your face and neck, using circular motions. Avoid your eyes and mouth. Concentrate on the areas around your nose, forehead and chin. If you have combination skin, pay a little extra attention to those areas that tend to be greasy. Rinse well.
Top tip: if you’re all out of exfoliant, make your own! Blitz a handful of almonds in a food processor until fine and add some sugar and olive/sunflower oil to make an intensely nourishing scrub.

Step 3:

You’re going to give your face a deep-cleansing, tingle-inducing steam treatment next. Tie your hair back, fill a bowl with hot, steaming water (not boiling water – you don’t want to burn yourself!) and create a steam-room effect by placing a towel over your head and lowering your face over the bowl, ensuring that the towel is over the edges of the bowl to keep all the steam in.  Let the steam drift up to your face and stay in there for no longer than 5 minutes, taking breaks for fresh air if you need to.  This steam treatment will help unclog your pores by getting rid of  dirt embedded in your skin. Steaming your face also stimulates blood circulation – which helps carry impurities away from the skin.
Top tip: add a few slices of lemon/lime or any citrus fruit to your steam mix, to cleanse and sterilise your pores. A sprig of herbs/ herbal tea bag will create a blissful aroma, as well as detoxify your skin.

Step 4:

The next step involves hydration and relaxation. Apply a face mask  to your skin using an upward motion. You’ll want to cover your face and neck completely in the Mask, and leave it for 15 minutes. To maximise the relaxation factor, you can lie down and cover your eyes with cucumber slices or cotton pads dipped in cold herbal tea. Our Detox Smoothie Mask for Your Face is intensely moisturising and because it contains chamomile it’s soothing for dry or inflamed skin. Tea tree will sterilise and geranium will tone and moisturise, while lemon tightens pores and invigorates skin. Rinse off with cold water.
Top tip: mix a few tablespoons of plain yogurt with 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and apply to your  face and neck. Let it dry for 20 to 30 minutes. While it’s drying you should feel the mask tighten on your face and neck, which has a lifting and firming effect.

Step 5:

The last step is moisturising, and you’re going to want to do this while your skin is still damp from the previous step. A rich (but light-feeling) moisturiser is recommended – like our Chamomile, Lime & Almond Face Butter – which will soothe your skin and lock in moisture. Your lips are part of your face too, so don’t forget to treat them with a moisturising Lip Balm as well.
Top tip: Apply slightly more moisturiser than you usually do – after all the steaming, scrubbing and masking – your skin will be thirsty and will welcome the extra nourishment!

Step 6:

Repeat 2-3 times a month for healthy, deep-cleansed and manageable skin.
